Intimate and vibrant
It might be hard to imagine the original purpose of the Shaffyzaal. Initially, it served as the Physics auditorium. Here, an audience would view from the balcony as professors carried out scientific experiments. The new look of the Shaffyzaal was inspired by its namesake: Ramses Shaffy. This Dutch singer and actor based his theatre group in Felix Meritis in the 60s and 70s. The psychedelic wall paintings of the period inspired the modern décor.
The Shaffyzaal is ideal for performances, creative break-out sessions, parties, receptions, and dinners. Choose daylight or blacked-out windows to make the space suit your purpose. The space also has a built-in reception area with bar, as well as a balcony with an additional multi-functional foyer behind it. Inspired by the creativity of Shaffy’s theatre, with contemporary facilities.
